Early Intervention Program

The first years are fundamental; in the first 1,000 days of life, a baby’s brain develops faster than ever before, and early childhood experiences lay the foundation for lifelong learning.

At the Margarita Tejada Foundation, we support families and caregivers during this crucial stage through our Early Intervention program. Our goal is to provide parents and caregivers with the tools to enhance the development and well-being of babies and children with Down syndrome from 15 days old to approximately 3 years of age, thus promoting their autonomy and inclusion in all environments.

Specific objectives

Methodology

The program uses a group approach, working with two different groups each day. Each group consists of a maximum of 8 babies, divided by age and development. Our groups are:

  • Stage 0 – Infant Massage
  • Stage 1 – Crawling
  • Stage 2 – Crawling
  • Stage 3 – Walking
  • Stage 4 – Preschoolers

Each group is attended by Special Education Teachers, Physical Therapists, and Speech Therapists. Families attend once a week for approximately two hours. During this time, they receive the program’s complementary therapies (speech therapy and physical therapy) as well as special education learning activities, which include:

Fine Motor Skills
Gross Motor Skills
Cognition
Self-Help and Socialization

We understand the importance of the support and well-being of parents and caregivers. For this reason, families receive in-person Psychology workshops once a month. Our professionals provide comprehensive support throughout the development process of babies and children with Down syndrome, as well as their primary caregivers.
